I just returned from the annual AAEP (American Association of Equine Practitioners) convention held this year in Orlando. I have been fortunate to attend for the past 20 years as a guest of Dr. Marv Beeman who was Calypso’s vet during his competition years. Marv is a past president of the AAEP and is held in high esteem by his peers – it is an honor to call him my friend. Marv at 82 is still Master of his Arapahoe Hunt Club and rides 6 days a week. He told me he rode 80 miles last week… mostly at a gallop!
I surprised Marv by bringing Calypso’s long time groom and my great friend, Syd Eustace Goodrich. They had not seen each other since the Los Angeles Olympic Games in 1984 and my, what a cheerful yet emotional reunion it was! We had a wonderful few days attending the educational lectures with Marv and his wife Eunie and catching up on each other’s lives. I realized that when you have been in the horse world all your life that you have a lot of friends in the veterinary world … and it reminds you of the many, many chapters of your life and the wonderful people that mean the world to you!
